“Merde….” the ringmaster cursed under his breath as he carefully walked about the circus grounds. He could hear the grunts going about their duties. One of them had even asked the ringmaster if he required assistance. However, the ringmaster was determined to at least try and get about by himself. He had just barely managed to get out of his trailer on his own, and was now trying to make his away about the circus grounds. He had actually managed to reach the edge of the grounds, marked by a few trees that were nearby. He placed a hand in front of him just in time to feel out the bark. “…wonderful….just wonderful….at least we’re not doing any shows today….” he murmured.
Peering from behind the tree she had curled around, Morty watched the goings-on of the circus with bright, curious eyes. So busy and colorful! It was quite a sight to behold, both the people and the structures drawing in her multi-colored gaze and leaving her staring on them with a giddy grin of wonder. It was a sight she wanted to get a better view of, which prompted her to pull herself higher up into the branches above her with another twist of her large tail around the tree trunk. The ascending movement had also made her miss seeing the Ringmaster walking towards the forest line, but she was so transfixed on the troupe that she might have missed him anyways -even with the shock of yellow that made up his attire and hair.
The Scolopend was jerked from her wonderings about the bustling grunts and what they were possibly doing, however, when she felt a hand on the armored hide of her tail. Morty peered downwards at the male, simultaneously freezing up and tilting her head curiously. Was that… a piece of cloth tied around his head? Blind, perhaps? She let out a contemplative chirp and leaned further down to inspect more of the strange-haired fellow, intending to give a greeting (and hopefully not startle him). Of course, that only succeeded in making her lose her grip on the tree and hit the dirt with a loud thump, her legs having released the trunk in her flailing panic at losing her balance, though she had thankfully managed to avoid falling on the man.
“Huuu-“
The ringmaster stiffened up a bit his head turning in the direction of the noise. “…is someone there?” he called. He picked up the sound of a voice that sounded somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it. He realized that the thud may have been the sound of them falling down, and probably hurting themselves in the process. “…are you alright?” he asked, deciding upon staying where he was. He didn’t want to accidentally trip over them in the process of trying to help them up.
Morty gave a wave of her hand at his words, pushing herself up to a standing position again. It wasn’t until after she was up that she realized the action wouldn’t have been seen by the other, and she quickly chirped out a response while hunching her shoulders in embarrassment.
“Yesyes! I am fines, just a bit dusties.”
Now that she was on the ground, she could properly get a look at the male. ‘Oh, pretty clothesstfuffs, Brian would likes.’ She made a mental note to bring her companion the next time she visited these ‘circus places’.
There was something about him that caught her keen gaze, but she couldn’t quite place what it was as she stared down at the man. Morty almost extended one of her hands for a shake, but she caught herself before the motion had begun this time, opting to greet him verbally instead.
“Oh! Good meetings, yellow friendpersons! I am Morty, and Morty is who I am, yes~ You are part of this neat places, maybe?”
He did seem to fit in rather well with the rest of the brightly-themed surroundings.
“Ah, yes I am….” He blinked a bit at the name. “Morty?” Loyal couldn’t help but chuckle, “I thought I knew that voice from somewhere. Do you not recognize me? It is I, Monsieur Loyal, the ringmaster of the Cirque du Gothique,” he replied, carefully bowing a bit in greeting before straightening himself out. “Granted, it may have been a while since last we met. I believe I haven’t seen you since…well…since I kissed you, actually.” The ringmaster laughed a bit at the memory.
She blinked down at him and tilted her head, first to one side, and then the other, before giving a few sniffs of the air. With a sudden look of recognition, Morty reared back with a happy squeak, then swooped down and curled her long tail loosely around the Ringmaster, giving him a gentle but enthusiastic hug with her many arms.
“Sir Loyalfriend! Oh, it has been much too longs, I am very sorries for not recognizings! We did not get to speaks much last times, and I have been many of the places lately and. Many apologies, yes.” Morty looked back to the tents with a grin, a new-found wonder for what may lie within taking hold, now that she knew who ran the place. ”This is your workplaces? I never got chances to come here, no. How have beens?”
She rattled off a few more quick words that mainly just dissolved into chirps and coos, but focusing back on him, the Scolopend quieted and began scenting the air again. ”Your eyes, they are not hurts? I do not smell the bloods, but… Is Loyalfriend alrights?”
The ringmaster couldn’t help but laugh a bit at the scolopend’s enthusiasm, though he tensed up a bit at the hug. It wasn’t that he minded too much, but it certainly did surprise him. He offered a small grin as he turned his direction to where he thought her face would be. “Yes, I work in the circus grounds…somewhere. I’ve been fine, cherie…” He blinked a bit at the mention of his eyes before shaking his head. “Yes, everything’s fine, just…a Magic Anon decided to keep me blindfolded until the day was done. I’ve been trying to make the most of it but…I haven’t had much practice relying on my other senses to get around.”
Nodding, Morty frowned and puffed up a bit, relinquishing her hold on Loyal to cross all of her arms with a frown. ”Grayface peoples are not very nice, they are nots. Sounds like much big inconvenience. Do- Do you need any helps finding the things?”
Looking around with the knowledge that he wasn’t used to walking without sight, she saw everything as a potential hazard, and tightened her coil protectively around the male. She knew that it wasn’t her job to look after him, but she instinctively always tried to help and keep all of her friends as safe as she could. An ingrained… Loyalty, she thought with a small smile at her own internal joke.
“I have nots ever had to be blinds before; even without the eyes, I can sees. It must be hards… I can helps! Whatever Sir Loyalfriends needs, I shall helps~”
“Ah-” He gently placed a gloved hand on the coil that surrounded him before chuckling a bit. “Well, first things first, mademoiselle….could you kindly tell me if I’m even within the circus grounds, or have I wandered a little too far?”
Morty smiled, giving a chirping giggle and a shake of her head, though she knew he wouldn’t be able to see. ”No, I am afraids not; you were about to walk into the forests, yes! Maybe is perhaps much more good that we ran the into each other But is not too far away from the circusplaces, just a few steps back~”
Uncoiling her tail, she carefully put her clawed hand on his shoulder and gave a gentle nudge in the right direction, eyeing the ground for anything he might trip over. ”Is clear path back to the places from here, friendLoyal.”
